Dear Colleagues, distinguished representatives of our sector;
Whilst we are completing our 2 years of activity programme covering both 2017 and 2018, I hope that 2019 and the 11th Activity Period will bring further success and achievements for our members, our sector and our country.
Ever since we were established 20 years ago with a view to representing the Turkish textile machinery sector, TEMSAD – the Textile Machinery and Accessories Industrialists` Association has not only been focused on promoting our sector but also helping developing it further. Our membership grew to 190 businesses in 2018 which is our 20th Year since our foundation in 1998.
We witness practically every day that our role and responsibilities to represent the interests of our sector follow an upward trend constantly while we assist all the state and non-state bodies with the design and implementation of policies that could support the needs and demands of our sector, eliminating obstacles and problems.
In the 2017 – 2018 Period, we have continued the cooperation and worked to further the relationships of our members with the Turkish textile producers. In this context, the project that we ran with the Fashion and Apparel Federation in 2017 was a good example of cooperation with the players of our industry to help promote the capabilities and all types of products and solutions offered by our local textile machinery and accessory manufacturing members. The cooperation protocol that we signed with the Turkish Textiles Finishing Industrialists` Association (TTTSD) back in November 2018 helped us introduce the advantages and benefits of locally manufactured textile machinery and accessories for the modernisation of the Turkish textile finishing industry and requirements for new parts and machineries. Within the framework of these cooperation platforms we had the opportunity to introduce quality and price advantages of local products over those of imported ones. Having said that, the acquisition of the Italian textile machinery giant Brazzoli by our member Canlar Mekatronik has been another significant achievement of our sector and we in the meantime would like take this opportunity to thank all our members who represent through their successful work and efforts, our sector and country around the world.
With 156 Turkish firms we are exhibiting at the ITMA Show in Spain from 20th to 26th June 2019. Out of this 156 companies, 110 of them are TEMSAD members and we will represent our country and local textile machinery to the best of our abilities just like we did previously in other organisations abroad.
As of end 2017, our sector exported parts and machinery amounting up to USD 605m and we estimate that our export revenues will reach up to USD 750m by end 2018. It is noteworthy that 70% of this turnover comes from dye and finishing machinery. When we look at the other side of our trade, our imports were USD1.4bn in 2017 and we expect they will move up to USD 1.9bn by end 2018.
Our members are committed to increasing the export revenues of our sector and with a view to balancing our foreign trade and turning it into a more export oriented one, we need to decrease the import content in our industry which we can achieve by following specific policies and in collaboration with all the stakeholders.
Chairman of TEMSAD
